Gold-Standard Surgery

Higher standards of surgical care.

General Surgery

At Wilder Animal Hospital, we are proud to offer a state-of-the-art operating room, anesthetic monitoring equipment, and decades of experience in surgery for your beloved pets.   Whether it is a mass removal, intestinal surgery, or something else, we will be happy to discuss the issue and provide with all the information you need to make your decision.

Before Surgery

Prior to surgery, we will need to examine your pet to discuss the scope of the surgery.  This will involve a physical exam, pre-anesthetic lab work, and possibly other diagnostics such as x-rays, if needed.   We will provide you with an estimate for the cost of surgery, and discuss this estimate with you in detail.  On the day of surgery, your pet will be fasted and you will drop off first in the morning. +

During Surgery

For most routine surgeries, we will pre-medicate your pet to keep them calm and relaxed.  We will place an IV catheter to have access to their veins for medications and fluids during surgery.   The surgery is performed in our modern, well-equipped operating room, and your pet will have a dedicated anesthetist monitoring their EKG, respiration, oxygenation, blood pressure, and carbon dioxide levels. +

Recovery

When surgery is over, we monitor to ensure that they are recovering normally, and we send them home in the afternoon. Full discharge instructions will be provided, helping you to care for your pet in the post-operative period.

Sometimes, your pet will need a complicated and specialized surgery that we may not be able to perform.  In this case, we will refer you to a nearby board-certified surgeon for this procedure.
